I was attacked in Sainsbury's car park a couple of years ago. Badly cut lip. I went down to the Police Station (with the cut lip) and waited 45 minutes to report the assault. The police officer took down my statement in great detail. I signed it. Then he said, looking at my lip, I don't think we will be prosecuting in this case. I asked why not. Well, we have so many assaults, he answered, and unless it is a racial or homophobic attack, or you are hospitalised, then we take no action. He assured me I would be getting a letter with a final view in a few days. Indeed I did and the letter said the same thing. I thought about framing it.

All very well to talk about tackling the root problem and giving the kids better things to do.

The police have seemingly made no correlation between no accountability and the level and incidence of violence.

I'm glad Paul is able to remain philosophical and is not dead from a brick in the head thrown by one of these sociopath hoodies which would have made a philosophical attitude more difficult to sustain.

Just kids deep down? Of course. And kids who know they will not be held accountable.
