What a relief to read an article that gives a constructive yet critical analysis of St Pancras. Thankyou so much. I couldn't agree more. I tend to use St Pancras for domestic travel, as do my friends travelling down from Sheffield and these issues are a constant irritant to say the least. What worries me even further is the same lack of creative thinking about pedstrian flows is going into the design of the refurbished King's Cross Station. To have one station badly designed for its users is very unfortunate, to have two........

Tobias Newland

The article raises some good points about the neglect of the concerns of domestic inter-city passengers. But what about the poor people using King's Cross for local suburban services to St Albans and Luton or southwards to London Bridge, Croydon and Brighton. The walk to the suburban station is an even longer walk. Some kind of moving pavement is badly needed.

David Barrie

It's great that someone has drawn attention to how getting a domestic train out of St Pancras is equivalent to langlaufing the Tirol. What Bruce Payne's post is drawing attention to is that for all the fanfares rolled out, no-one has evaluated the site as a place. And it falls short on some of the key, basic elements that make places, e.g. seating and distance to be travelled by domestic punters. In my mind, the entire revamp has been badly curated, for want of a better word. And that's exemplified by the retail offer: which isn't a retail offer but more like a physical manifestation of those gift sections in the back of free magazines on aeroplanes. Where's the bookshop? The branch of Planet Organic? The fruit shop? Something other than the PR version of 'destination travel' or maximum floor tiling?

stop moaning about walking you lazy middle aged types. it's good for you.
